The City of Surrey is launching a new pilot program this summer aimed at bringing live local music to public spaces in the city centre.
The Surrey Music Busker Program will run from June through September 2026, featuring performances by approved local musicians at three high-traffic locations: Surrey Civic Plaza, Central City Mall and Holland Park.
City officials say the initiative is designed to create a more vibrant and welcoming downtown while supporting local artists.
“Public spaces play an important role in bringing people together, and programs like this help create a more vibrant and connected city,” said Laurie Cavan, Surrey’s general manager of parks, recreation and culture, in a statement.
The program stems from the city’s broader music strategy and responds to demand for more accessible, low-barrier performance opportunities for musicians.
By integrating live performances into busy public areas, the city aims to enhance the visitor experience, support the local arts community and foster a stronger sense of connection among residents.
Officials say the selected locations were chosen to balance visibility with safety and pedestrian flow.
As a pilot project, the program will also gather feedback from performers, businesses and the public to inform future cultural programming in Surrey’s public spaces.
Applications are now open for musicians interested in participating, with the city encouraging performers to apply online for the free opportunity.
