British Columbia: TransLink is intensifying its efforts to combat fare evasion, which costs them $5 million annually. They’re increasing visible fare patrols on buses, trains, and at transit hubs. Passengers caught evading fares can be fined $173. This move aims to address a funding shortfall and ensure fair payment for transit services. Recently, security officers have checked over 100,000 passengers, marking a 60% rise in inspections compared to last year. This crackdown will continue with increasing patrols.
