Ottawa: India has rejected a Canadian report accusing it of interference, calling it politically motivated and influenced by Sikh separatist groups. The report claims some Canadian officials may have unknowingly been part of foreign interference efforts and names India and China as major threats to Canada’s democracy. India’s ambassador to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, criticized the report for being unfair and lacking solid proof, and said it was influenced by anti-India elements. This response comes after Canada’s allegations of Indian involvement in the 2023 murder of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia. While Canada is pushing for cooperation in the murder investigation, India says it hasn’t received any evidence. Rising tensions have also stalled trade talks between the two countries, though trade has surpassed $25 billion and is expected to grow further.
