India: Sarwan Singh Pandher, leader of the Shambu Morcha protest, has urged Punjab voters to consider farmers’ conditions before voting in the Lok Sabha Elections on June 1. The protest at the Shambhu border has reached its 110th day despite extreme heat. Farmers are demanding the release of three detained farmers, a guarantee for MSP, 200 days’ work for laborers, and debt relief. The protest has seen 22 farmer deaths and 35 injuries. Pandher criticized the BJP and RSS for creating divisions to win elections and warned voters to consider these issues. Farmers are encouraged to join the protest after voting to continue pressing their demands. BKU spokesperson Tajveer Singh highlighted the farmers’ resilience and community support in enduring the heat at the protest site.
