India’s highest court has given Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal temporary freedom after he was arrested for a corruption case. He can stay out of jail until June 1, but then he has to go back. Kejriwal, who used to fight against corruption, got arrested because of a plan about selling alcohol that got canceled. He says he didn’t do anything wrong and that his arrest was unfair. Even though he asked for bail before and was denied, this time the Supreme Court said yes, even though the financial crimes agency, Enforcement Directorate, didn’t want him to. However, he has to surrender again on June 2, just before India’s big election results are announced. While he’s free, he can still campaign for the election, but he can’t do his official duties. Kejriwal, who is part of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was put in jail on March 21, not long after the election dates were announced. He’s accused of helping liquor barons for money, but his party says that’s not true.
