British Columbia: B-C is granting roughly 20-thousand seniors in the provincial low-income support program a one-time 430-dollar benefit that will go towards paying rent.
Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon says the seniors under the provincial Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters program will receive the
benefit this month.
Kahlon says the province has also expanded the eligibility for the program to include seniors with annual incomes of about
37-thousand-dollars or below.
The program had been criticized by former B-C seniors advocate Isobel Mackenzie, who in her last report in the role called the support inadequate because of high rental costs.
