British Columbia: A former B-C cabinet minister has quit the New Democrat government, citing antisemitism in the party caucus and indifference towards the problem.
Selina Robinson, who is Jewish, says she will sit as an Independent after previously announcing that she won’t be running in the provincial election this fall.
Robinson resigned her post as minister of post-secondary education last month after saying modern Israel was founded on — quote — “a crappy piece of land” — remarks that sparked an
outcry from Muslim and pro-Palestinian groups.
A statement from Premier David Eby (EE’-bee) yesterday says he will continue to condemn hate in all its forms, and he wished Robinson had brought her concerns to him directly so they could have worked through them together.
