Ottawa :Canada’s premiers have gathered in Halifax to take part in a Council of Federation meeting. During the meeting, health care and carbon pricing policies are likely to be the key issues.
Although Quebec Premier Francois Legault won’t take part in the meeting, his Cabinet colleague Jean-Francois Roberge, who is responsible for Canadian affairs, will represent the premier.
Besides, premiers of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut will also give the meeting a miss.
Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston said Health care will be the top priority during the meet. He hoped that the discussions will yield fresh concepts.
According to Houston, talks might also touch on Alberta’s intention to leave the Canada Pension Plan and the price of carbon.
B.C. Premier David Eby claims that jurisdictions such as his own, which collects its own fuel tax and is not eligible for the relief, are treated unfairly by the freeze on carbon pricing.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford, meantime, said he is advocating for the elimination of carbon pricing nationwide.
