Vancouver: Police Chief Adam Palmer says a triple stabbing at a Chinatown festival at six last night was a “random act of violence” that has “shocked” city residents.
Palmer calls the stabbing a “horrendous attack” that saw a man and woman in their 60s and a woman in her 20s injured, but the chief says their wounds are not considered life threatening.
Mayor Ken Sim says he was at the Light Up Chinatown Festival, where the attack happened, and the trauma to the victims – and the entire community – will take time to heal.
A 64-year-old man, identified as Blair Evan Donnelly, on a day pass from a psychiatric centre was arrested several blocks away from the attacks.
The suspect has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault. He remains in custody. — With the Canadian Press
