Charlottetown: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the federal government is closely monitoring the fires in British Columbia and the Northwest Territories.

The Prime Minister said the federal government called an Incident Response Group meeting to make sure Ottawa is doing everything necessary to keep people safe and co-ordinate with the provinces.

Trudeau said federal Emergency Preparedness Minister Harjit Sajjan will be attending that meeting virtually from British Columbia.

He said Sajjan is leading the federal efforts in the province. — Canadian Press
