Ottawa: Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has sidestepped questions on whether he would touch Canada’s immigration targets.

Speaking to reporters in Ottawa Tuesday, Poilievre promised to speed up processing times but refused to answer whether he could reduce the current goal of welcoming 500,000 immigrants per year by 2025.

Some worry it could add pressure to the country’s housing shortage.

But Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government has defended its target as necessary to deal with the labour shortage that has plagued employers since the COVID-19 pandemic. — Canadian Press
