Vancouver: A tentative deal has been reached between employers and workers in the strike that halted shipments in and out of British Columbia ports for nearly two weeks.

A statement from the BC Maritime Employers Association says it has reached a tentative agreement with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union.

The association says the four-year deal is subject to ratification by both parties, so details are not yet being released.

After a deal has been reached between the union representing 7,400 port workers and its employers, Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and Surrey Board of Trade have welcomed the development.

While speaking at LNG Conference in Vancouver, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said the strike by port workers coming to an end is a relief. Advocating expansion in access to ports, she said the federal government should work with premiers. — With Canadian Press
