Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has handed over cheques for Rs 2 crore to the next of kin of policemen who had martyred in line of duty or died due to accidental deaths.
The Chief Minister also gave Rs 4 lakh each for the education of their children.
The Chief Minister handed over the cheque for Rs 1 crore to the family of ASI Sanjeev Kumar, who martyred in line of duty at Jalandhar. Besides, cheques for Rs 50 lakh each have been given to the next of kin of ASI Parnam Singh and ASI Gurlal Singh, who died accidentally.
According to the Punjab Government, ASI Sanjeev Kumar lost his life after a Balero car rammed into him when he was checking vehicles during the movement of a VVIP in Jalandhar.
Interacting with the families, the Chief Minister said that the state government stands by these families in this hour of crisis. He said that this initiative is in recognition of the immense contribution of the policemen while performing their duties and maintaining law and order in the state.
Bhagwant Mann also said that the state government is duty bound to help the families of these bravehearts and ensure their well being.
