New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday met the wrestlers protesting seeking the arrest of outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

This meeting lasted for about one and a half hours. The Delhi Police has registered two FIRs against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, including one under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act based on allegations by a minor wrestler.

Olympian Bajrang Punia said that they met the Home Minister at his Delhi residence late last evening. Sources said the meeting, which began at 11 pm, lasted for over two hours and was attended by Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Sangeeta Phogat and Satyavrat Kadian.

The wrestlers demanded a fair investigation and prompt action against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment by seven women wrestlers, including a minor. Amit Shah assured the wrestlers that the law is same for everyone, let the law take its own course.

Sources said the protesting wrestlers had demanded a meeting with Amit Shah after the five-day deadline for action against the wrestling federation chief ended yesterday.

The protesting wrestlers had clashed with the police after they tried to march towards Parliament on May 28, the day of the inauguration of the new Parliament building. The police had detained the protesting wrestlers and removed their belongings from the protest site Jantar Mantar.
