New Delhi: Farmer leaders have warned the central government to arrest wrestling association chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh by June 9 or be ready to face intense protests in Delhi. It has been said in the khap panchayat that after June 9, a sit-in will be held at Jantar Mantar.
Farmer leaders supporting India’s top athletes in their fight against Wrestling Federation chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh have given a fresh ultimatum to the Centre to arrest him or face major protests.
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said, “We have decided that the government should address the grievances of the wrestlers and he (Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh) should be arrested. Otherwise, we along with the wrestlers will go to Jantar Mantar in Delhi on June 9 and hold panchayats across the country.”
BJP MP Brij Bhushan has been accused of sexual harassment and intimidation. The wrestlers have alleged that he misused his position as the head of the WFI to sexually harass athletes.
A khap panchayat was organized in support of wrestlers in Kurukshetra, Haryana. According to the decision taken in this panchayat, the government has been given an ultimatum till June 9.
The khap panchayat has also demanded that the FIR lodged against the players be quashed after they attempted to march to Parliament.
