Surrey: The RCMP has said a youth has been charged in a series of robberies that happened in the Guildford area.
The RCMP said on April 24 between 10:00 pm and 11:30 pm, officers responded to three separate reports of robberies and a fourth suspicious incident where a person reported that they felt they were about to be robbed.
In all incidents bear spray was produced and used by the suspect who stole cell phones and headphones, the Mounties added.
According to the Surrey RCMP, the investigation into these incidents is being done by its robbery unit and officers believe that the same suspect is involved in these incidents.
“Extensive video canvassing was conducted and information sharing between partner agencies assisted with the identification of a suspect,” said Surrey RCMP.
Mounties said on May 17, a 15-year-old youth was charged with robbery and a warrant was issued for their arrest. The suspect was arrested the following day and remains in custody, said RCMP.
“The Surrey RCMP Robbery Unit works closely with our crime analysts to stay on top of trends, such as spikes in personal robberies and any linkages between investigations,” said Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer Corporal Vanessa Munn.
