Ontario: Three people were killed in a clash between the landlord and the tenants at 322 Jones Rd., near Barton Street, in Stoney Creek, Hamilton police said on Sunday.

Det. Sgt. Steve Bereziuk said that after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, police received a call from a house on Jones Road near Barton Street. When police reached the spot, they found a 27-year-old female educational assistant and a 28-year-old male electrician lying dead just outside the house.

The police said that landlord had barricaded himself in the residence with multiple, sitting in the house with weapons. Bereziuk said he was a landlord and lived in the upper unit of the tenants’ house.

The police advised the residents of the area to move to their basements to resolve the issue peacefully. Police said in a statement that during the conversation, the suspect opened fire on an armed vehicle of Hamilton police. The suspect later fired more shots and the police had to retaliate. In the meantime, suspect died. Around 1:00 am, the situation was brought under control by the police.

The Special Investigation Unit issued a statement saying that the matter is being investigated by them. Bereziuk said the two tenants were innocent. Talking to reporters, he said both the tenants were hardworking and young. They were not involved in any criminal activity, Bereziuk said adding this is a very sad incident.
