Chandigarh: A day after claiming to arrest the main conspirator of the Bargari sacrilege case, the Punjab Police faced major embarrassment on Wednesday after the police found that detained man at the Bangalore Airport was not Sandeep Bareta.

It has come to light when the Faridkot police team, which came to take custody, had to return empty-handed from the Bangalore Airport.

After being detained on the basis of suspicion, the Punjab Police claimed to have arrested Sandeep Bareta on its social media on Tuesday.

According to sources, after the man was denied, a team of Faridkot police reached Bengaluru on Tuesday evening and investigated about him. However, during the probe, man was identified as Sandeep Mannan, a resident of Delhi.

In a social media post, Punjab Police wrote, “A communication from Immigration Authorities, Bengaluru Airport was received regarding detaining of Sandeep s/o Om Prakash r/o New Delhi) matching the description of Sacrilege accused Sandeep Bareta on the basis of LOC issued by Faridkot Police in Bargari Sacrilege Cases.”

The police said that the matter was promptly duly verified. It has been found that the detained person at Bengaluru Airport is not the wanted Sacrilege accused Sandeep Bareta r/o Sirsa, Haryana.
