Chandigarh: Former Punjab minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot was granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court late evening on Wednesday. Dharamsot was in jail since February in connection with the disproportionate assets case.

Dharamsot had filed a bail plea in the High Court after his bail plea was rejected by the Mohali court. Dharamsot will be released from jail on Thursday.

The high court judge had reserved the verdict on the bail plea of Sadhu Singh Dharamsot during the day. But late in the evening, Dharamsot was granted bail. Dharamsot was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on February 6 in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

Earlier, the bail plea was rejected by the Mohali court on March 5. According to the vigilance investigation, the income of Dharamsot and his family from 2016 to 2022 was Rs 3.27 crore. But Rs 8.76 crore was spent more than Rs 6.39 crore.

Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, who was a minister in the Congress government, has also been arrested in the Punjab jungle scam. But in this case, he got bail from the court.

Apart from Dharamsot, the name of Congress leader Sangat Singh Gilzian has also come up in this case. It is alleged that he took a bribe of Rs 500 for cutting each tree. A case was also registered against Gilzian and he was arrested.
