London: Three members of an Indian-origin organised crime group have been jailed for a total of over 17 years for smuggling cannabis worth nearly one million pounds from Canada to the UK.

The accused have been identified as Kuran Gill, Jag Singh and Govind Bahia. They were found guilty of conspiring to import a ‘Class B’ drug and sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court.

Border Force officials had recovered the drug from inside a computer casing consignment at Heathrow Airport in February 2021.

Kuran Gill, 32, of Sun Marsh Way, Gravesend, was sentenced to seven years in jail, Jag Singh, 32, of The Boulevard, south-west London, was jailed for four years and nine months while Govind Bahia, 30, to three years in jail.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Steve Brown of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said in a statement that said the cracking of the EncroChat mobile phone platform has led to countless criminals being caught red-handed and brought to justice.
