Chandigarh: At least 11 people reported dead and dozen have been admitted to the hospital after a sudden gas leak was reported in Giaspura area Ludhiana. The police administration reached the spot and sealed the area.
Giving information about the case, Ludhiana West SDM Swati said, “Definitely, it is a case of gas leakage. At present, the NDRF team is present at the spot to evacuate people and rescue them.” Eleven deaths have been reported, including five women and six men.
Officials attempting to stop the gas leak in the factory and started rescue operations. Police and NDRF teams also shifted people living in nearby residential areas to other areas and evacuated the area.
The police have not yet identified the factory owner. Those who died were sitting in a slum right next to the factory.
After getting information about the incident, MLA Rajinder Kaur Chhina also reached the spot. The rescue operation is underway.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Punjab Governor BL Purohit expressed condolences over the incident and ordered officials to swiftly carry out the rescue operation.
