Surrey: After Public Safety Minister and Solicitor General Mike Farnworth recommended transition to Surrey Police Services, Mayor Brenda Locke on Friday said the public has made it clear that they want to keep the RCMP in the city, and that there’s been no indication that has changed.

The mayor called the province’s report on the issue “half baked”, noting that it was heavily redacted.

She also called Mike Farnsworth’s decision to recommend the municipal force for Surrey is “political” and “disrespectful”.

However, the province said the decision is not binding, but it has placed several mandatory conditions on the city if it decides to retain the Mounties. — Canadian Press
