Chandigarh: The Punjab Police have beefed up security in the state’s jails after Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) sent intel to the state government of a possible attack on jails by terrorist Lakhbir Landa and his aides.
The authorities have been asked to tighten the security and no laxity is being taken by the police. A letter has been written to all the jail superintendents by the Jail Department in this regard and orders have been given to further tighten the security.
According to sources, the terrorist is planning to free their associates lodged in jails in the state. Part of this plan is also to attack the higher officials of the jail. Apart from this, any other method can also be adopted, the agency intel said.
There are around 26 jails in Punjab. Of these, 9 are central jails. There are two state-of-the-art prisons.
Landa is one of the most vicious criminals. He is accused in the RPG attack on the Intelligence Headquarters of Punjab Police in May 2022. Apart from this, he is also the main accused in the RPG attack on Tarn Taran police station. He has more than 50 cases pending against him across the state. He is stated to be hiding in a foreign country.
