Chandigarh: Former Punjab Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal patron Parkash Singh Badal passed away today.

He was rushed to a private hospital in Mohali after his health deteriorated on Friday, where he took his last breath.

The mortal remains of Parkash Singh Badal will be kept at the party office in Sector 28, Chandigarh from 10:00 am to 12:00 am tomorrow. After this, the last journey will start from Chandigarh and to go to village Badal, by Rajpura, Patiala, Sangrur, Barnala, Rampura, Phool and Bathinda. The last rites will be performed at village Badal on 27th at 1 pm.

The 95-year-old Parkash Singh Badal was the Chief Minister of Punjab five times. Parkash Singh Badal started politics in the year 1947. He contested and won the election of sarpanch.

He then became the youngest sarpanch. He contested the first assembly election in 1957. He won again in 1969. From 1969-70, he was minister of panchayati raj, animal husbandry, dairy etc.

Apart from this, he became the Chief Minister of Punjab in 1970-71, 1977-80, 1997-2002. Apart from this, he also became the Leader of the Opposition in 1972, 1980 and 2002.
