Chandigarh: A supplementary challan was on Tuesday filed in connection with the Bargari sacrilege case and the Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura firing incidents in Punjab.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by ADGP L K Yadav, probing the firing incident, filed another supplementary challan of over 2,400 pages in the court of Magistrate Ajaypal Singh.

The accused have been identified as former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Singh Badal, Sumedh Singh Saini, Paramraj Singh Umarnagal, Charanjit Sharma, Amar Singh Chahal, Sukhmander Mann and Gurdeep Singh,

The sanction under Section 197 of the CrPC has been received from the Punjab government to initiate prosecution against the accused. It is mainly a 112-page supplementary charge sheet with 2,374 pages of facts, documents, sanction order and CFSL report. On February 24, 2023, the SIT had issued the first invoice under Section 173 of the 7,000-page code.

On October 12, 2015, an incident of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji took place in Bargari, Faridkot. After this, Sikh organizations held protests in Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan, which the police tried to end. On October 14, police used force against protesters in Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan.

In Behbal Kalan, police opened fire, in which 2 Sikh youths were killed. There was also firing in Kotkapura, in which about 100 protesters were injured. On August 7, 2018, the police had registered a case of intentional murder against unidentified people.
