Chandigarh: Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh has expressed deep concern over two incidents of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji in Punjab. He said that incidents of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji and Gutka Sahib were unabated in Punjab. It is a matter of grave concern. He demanded strict action against the miscreants.

Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh said that the incident that took place today at Chota Sahibzada Dargah in Morinda is an incident of provocation. A lower class man came and beat up Granthi Singh sitting in front of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Sri Guru Granth Sahib. This is an insult to Sahib ji, he said, adding that the government and administration should take strict action against the accused.

Because unless strict action is taken against such persons, the disrespect will not stop. Similarly, gutka Sahib was insulted in Golewala village of Faridkot, the police have immediately arrested 2 people for sacrilege, but what is surprising is that those arrested are said to be from the Christian community.

Jathedar said that such acts are an act to push Punjab back to darkness, such people who are insulting are definitely big forces behind them, which needs to be highlighted. He said that when there is desecration attempt, Sikhs can’t tolerate it.

“When the sentiments of Sikhs are hurt and Sikhs express their feelings, these people say that Sikhs spoil the atmosphere, Sikhs do not spoil the atmosphere. The sacrilege incident should be prevented at any cost,” he said.
