Chandigarh: After dodging the police for 36 days, fugitive Amritpal Singh surrendered in Moga, Punjab on March 23 morning. Amritpal Singh, who the government describes as a Khalistani-Pakistan agent, was arrested by Moga police after he addressed a gathering at a gurdwara in Rode village of Moga district.

Moga is the ancestral village of Khalistani sympathiser Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

During his address, he said, “If it was not issue of my arrest, I would have surrendered earlier, but there have been a lot of atrocities on Sikhs. I may be guilty in front of the world but not in front of the one above. Now after a month, I have decided I will fight on this place, I will not leave the place and go anywhere.”

He said that he will also face the false allegations being levelled against him. He also thanked people of the support and said,”It is your ardas that today I have decided to surrender on the land of the true emperor. ”

Amritpal Singh stated to be a follower of Khalistani separatist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and is termed as “Bhindranwale 2.0” among his supporters. After Amritpal Singh’s arrest, he has been taken to Dibrugarh jail in Assam, where eight of his associates are already lodged under the National Security Act.

Amritpal, who had been on the run since March 18, has been arrested by the police and appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony and refrain from sharing any fake news after Amritpal’s arrest.

The massive crackdown against Amritpal Singh was launched after the radical preacher and his supporters stormed a police station in Amritsar’s Ajnala police station with swords and guns for the release of one of his associates. Six policemen were injured in the clash.

Home Ministry sources said Amritpal Singh was leading young people towards gun culture. The radical preacher was reportedly using de-addiction centres to collect weapons illegally sourced from Pakistan.
