Chandigarh: The Punjab Police on Friday have arrested the Surinder Kamboj, 67, father of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Jalalabad Goldy Kamboj for blackmailing and extortion money from a property dealer.
The case was registered by Jalalabad police against the MLA’s father under Sections 384, 389 and 34 IPC on the complaint filed by a property dealer Sunil Kumar.
In his complaint on April 20, he said that he received a call from a woman named Rano Bai. After this, the property dealer went and brought him on a bike and showed him the house. Then the woman left.
However, later, in the evening, he received a call from Surinder Kamboj that the woman has complained to him about rape and threatened to file complaint. Property dealer said that after meeting Surinder Kamboj, he met Rano Bai and her son. They demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation for the settlement.
Meanwhile, Congress rebel-turned-Aam Aadmi Party legislator Jagdeep Goldy Brar denied any association with his father and said that he is staying away from his father since long.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also said that his government has zero tolerance policy against the corruption and action against MLA’s father will be taken as per the law.
MLA Goldy defeated Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal by over 30,000 votes. Sukhbir Singh Badal had won the seat in 2012 and 2017.
In 2007, Sher Singh was elected MLA from Akali Dal. The seat was occupied by the Shiromani Akali Dal for a long time, but in the 2022 assembly elections, the seat was captured by the AAP.
