New Delhi: A Gujarat court has acquitted all the accused in the 2002 Naroda Massacre case. The case was being heard in a special court in Ahmedabad. Former BJP minister Maya Kodnani among 68 accused were acquitted in the case.

Home Minister Amit Shah had appeared as a defence witness to Kodnani in 2017. All the accused have been acquitted, the counsel for the acquitted persons told reporters outside the court today.

At least 11 people were killed during riots in Naroda Gam area of Ahmedabad city on February 28, 2002, a day after 58 passengers returning from Ayodhya were killed in a train arson incident in Godhra.

The accused were facing trial under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon), 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
