Vancouver: A 34-year-old man has been charged with assault after a 70-year-old victim was attacked on Granville Street Monday afternoon.
The Vancouver Police said the assault happened around 12:30 pm on Monday when the victim was walking near Granville and Smithe streets.
The police said investigators believe the victim was knocked to the ground, kicked, bit, and threatened by a stranger.
The victim, who was less than a block from home when the attack happened, borrowed a phone to call 911 and a bystander also called the police, the press release issued by the Vancouver police reads.
Police said officers, who were in the area, arrested the suspect nearby.
The suspect has been identified as Darren Thomey, who has been charged with one count of assault.
The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance.
