Chandigarh: After the arrest of Pappalpreet Singh, a Khalistani supporter and close aide of Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh, will be lodged in high-security Diburgarh jail in Assam.
Papalpreet has been taken to Amritsar airport Tuesday morning from where he is being taken to Dibrugarh by Punjab Police officials. All the central agencies of the country will interrogate him.
The Punjab Police had arrested Papalpreet from Kathunang in Amritsar on Monday. However, Amritpal is still away from the police’s grip.
Amritpal had escaped from Jalandhar last month after dodging the police. Since then, Amritpal and Papalpreet were constantly together. He already has six cases registered against him and now he has also been charged under the National Security Act.
Amritpal and Papalpreet were wanted by the police since March 18. Many CCTV footages of both of them were also revealed, in which both were sometimes seen in Patiala, sometimes Kurukshetra and sometimes in Delhi. Papalpreet has been arrested and the police are looking for Amritpal.
Several supporters of Amritpal have been arrested in the past, many of whom have been sent to the Central Jail in Dibrugarh. It is one of the oldest prisons in the Northeast. The jail was used to house militants during the peak of the ULFA insurgency in Assam.
Several other Khalistani supporters, including Harjeet Singh and Amritpal Singh’s uncle, are lodged in the jail.
On the other hand, Akal Takht has recently asked Amritpal to surrender before the police. At the same time, the Akal Takht has also rejected Amritpal Singh’s demand for ‘Sarbat Khalsa’.
