New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday released the data on the current tiger population in the country. He said that by the year 2022, the tiger population in India has been recorded at 3,167.
Addressing the gathering at the event, he said India has not only rescued tigers but has also created an ecosystem conducive to their population growth.
He said that the success of ‘Project Tiger’ is a matter of pride not only for India but for the whole world. “We do not believe in the conflict between ecology and economy; We value their co-existence. India is a country where protecting nature is part of culture.”
“When many tiger reserve countries have stable population or population is declining, then why is India growing fast? The answer is our natural urge to change the tradition of India, the culture of India and the biodiversity in India’s society, the environment. We are the only country in the world to have an Asiatic lion,” he said.
The lion population has increased from 525 in 2015 to 675 in 2020. The leopard population has increased by more than 60% in just four years.
