Chandigarh: Hours after being expelled from the Congress, former Jalandhar MLA Sushil Rinku has joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann here on Wednesday.
Earlier, Punjab Congress central in-charge Harish Chaudhary has issued an order expelling Rinku from the party citing Rinku is involved in anti-party activities.
There has been talk about former MLA Sushil Rinku joining the Aam Aadmi Party for the last one week. But he finally joined the party today. He is going to be fielded as candidate in the Jalandhar by-election.
Sushil Rinku’s departure from the Congress may prove to be a major setback for the party ahead of the Lok Sabha by-election. Although Sushil Rinku’s entry may also increase resentment in the Aam Aadmi Party, but the AAP high command is also ready to face the resentment in the party about Rinku.
Elections in Jalandhar will be held on May 10
Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary died of a heart attack during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. The Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat has been lying vacant since his death. Now the Election Commission has announced the date of the elections.
According to the notification, voting for Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat will be held on May 10 and the results will be declared on May 13.
