New York: Donald Trump has become the first former US president to face criminal charges. A Manhattan grand jury on Thursday approved the prosecution of Trump, accusing a star of secretly paying money to avoid a scandal during the 2016 US presidential election.
However, 76-year-old Trump has denied all the allegations. In this case, Donald Trump may have to surrender in court. If Trump does not surrender, he can also be arrested.
Donald Trump is preparing to contest the next presidential election. However, Trump, who escaped the cases of riots and missing classified files at the US Capitol, has faced court in a sex scandal involving 44-year-old adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office confirmed that it had contacted Trump’s lawyers Thursday evening to “coordinate his surrender” for a appearance in New York.
Trump has dismissed the case as “political harassment and election interference”. Lashing out at prosecutors and his Democratic opponents, he said it would backfire on President Joe Biden. “This is the highest level of political persecution and election interference in history,” Trump said in a statement.
“Even before you were sworn in as president of the United States, the radical Left Democrats, the enemies of the hardworking men and women of this country, are engaged in a witch hunt. The truth is that they are not against me, they are against you.”
In a five-paragraph statement released within minutes of the grand jury’s indictment, Trump vowed revenge. “Democrats lied, cheated, and now they have done the unthinkable. Weaponising our justice system to punish a political opponent. This has never happened before. Anytime. I’m confident that this witch-hunt will backfire on Joe Biden in a big way.”
Stormy Daniels’ lawyer said the indictment of former President Donald Trump showed that “no one is above the law.” Now let truth and justice prevail.”
