Patna: A local court has summoned Rahul Gandhi to appear in the court in a defamation case. A Patna-based MP MLA court has asked former Congress President Rahul Gandhi to appear before it in a Surat-style defamation case on April 12. A few days ago, Rahul Gandhi was sentenced to two years in a Surat court.

Now an order has been issued to Rahul Gandhi to appear in the MP MLA court of Patna.

In 2019, former Bihar deputy chief minister and Rajya Sabha member Sushil Kumar Modi had filed a petition before a special judge of the MP MLA court.

On this, Summons have been sent to Rahul Gandhi to record his statement. Rahul Gandhi is currently out on bail in the case.

Sushil Kumar Modi’s lawyer SD Sanjay said that in 2019, a case was registered in the MP MLA court of Patna for using objectionable words on ‘Modi surname’. Rahul Gandhi insulted those with Modi surnames by calling them thieves.

Sanjay said that at that time in 2019, Rahul Gandhi appeared in the court of Patna and took bail. There are five witnesses in the Bihar case, including Sushil Kumar Modi, who was the last witness to record his statement in August 2022. In February this year, the complainant had submitted his own evidence in the case.

He said statements of all witnesses in favour of the complainant have been recorded and all evidence has been presented. Now the case is pending for Rahul Gandhi’s statement. The date for recording his statement has been fixed on April 12.
