Chandigarh: Punjab Police has not been able to arrest Amritpal Singh, the chief of Waris Punjab De and Khalistan supporter, for the sixth day.
According to police sources, he has fled Punjab. Police suspect him to be in Uttarakhand.
Sources said that after fleeing from Punjab, he had stayed at Shahbad in Kurukshetra district of Haryana on March 19 and 20.
The police are interrogating the woman whose house he stayed there. Police are trying to find out whether Amritpal knew the woman or he had forcibly entered the woman’s house. At the same time, the police have also received inputs about Amritpal’s hiding in Nanded, Maharashtra.
Apart from the neighboring states of Punjab, an alert has also been issued for Amritpal in Uttarakhand. The churches are also being investigated. Amritpal’s associate Tajinder Singh alias Gorkha Baba has been arrested in Ludhiana. He is Amritpal’s gunner.
During the investigation, police and intelligence agencies came to know that Amritpal was being funded from 158 foreign accounts. Of these, more than Rs 5 crore was sent from 28 accounts.
These accounts are related to Majha and Malwa in Punjab. The accounts in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Batala, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala and Phagwara have links with Amritpal.
