New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a high-level meeting to review the prevailing situation and public health preparedness amid rising covid-19 cases.

He was particularly briefed about the high number of H1N1 and H3N2 cases in the last few months.

Prime Minister Modi called for increased laboratory surveillance, testing of all cases of severe deadly respiratory infection (SARI) and speeding up genome sequencing.

In a review meeting on the COVID-19 situation and public health preparedness, PM Modi stressed on the need to follow COVID-appropriate behaviour. He advised caution, caution.

India has recorded 1,134 new coronavirus cases, while the number of active cases has risen to 7,026, officials said.

According to the data released at 8 am on Wednesday, the death toll has increased to 5,30,813 with five people succumbing to the infection. Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat and Maharashtra have reported one death each. One death from Covid-19 has been confirmed from Kerala.
