Chandigarh: The Leader of Opposition on Wednesday attacked the Punjab government for taking action against Amritpal Singh, head of Waris Punjab De and his associates and termed it a political move ahead of Jalandhar by-poll elections.
He said that Amritpal could be arrested from his house but Aam Aadmi Party government deliberately carried out this extensive action in the Jalandhar as the by-election are due in the constituency in the coming weeks. He also sought resignation of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Later, when the Proceedings of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha resumed today after paying homage to the departed, Leader of Opposition Partap Bajwa and other Congress MLAs demanded a debate on law and order.
After Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan rejected the resolution in this regard, the Congress MLAs trooped into the well of the House shouting slogans against the AAP government and started shouting slogans. There was an argument between the Speaker and the Congress MLAs.
Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring asked the Speaker to allow him to raise the law and order issue. He accused the Speaker of going by the government’s order. The Congress MLAs staged a walkout after raising slogans in the House for 45 minutes.
Warring writes to DGP over arrest of Sikh youths
Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has written a letter to the Punjab DGP expressing concern over the arrest of a large number of youths in the Amritpal Singh case.
He said the Punjab Congress does not support any leniency towards anti-national elements but a soft approach is needed for the rehabilitation of these misguided youth.
