Ontario: Ontario’s NDP candidate Sarah Jama has won the provincial by-election held on Thursday at Hamilton Center.

The seat, which has been a stronghold of the NDP and represented for many years by former party leader Andrea Horwath, has been secured by Jama again.

She won with 54.3 percent of the vote, defeating Liberal candidate Deirdre Pike, Progressive Conservative candidate Peter Wiesner, Green Party candidate Lucia Iannantuono and six others.

Jama, who has faced criticism in some cases, was already expected to win.

The Hamilton Center has been represented by Horwath in the Ontario Legislative Assembly since 2004. He always continued to win from this seat with a huge margin. But he resigned from the seat and after his party failed to perform well in the provincial elections last year.
