Ottawa: Major General Danny Fortin, who was acquitted of sexual abuse charges late last year, has filed a $6 million lawsuit against the Canadian government and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Fortin, who was removed from leading Canada’s COVID-19 vaccine program in early 2021, has also named 16 high-ranking officers in the case, including Trudeau, Chief of the Defense Staff General Wayne Eyre, former Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan and former Health Minister Patty Hajdu.

In the lawsuit filed Wednesday with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Fortin has asked for $5 million for general damages and $1 million in penalty.

The documents filed by Fortin allege that he suffered a lot due to infamy and misunderstanding. He also alleged that the authorities were negligent in the investigation, private facts were wrongly exposed to the public and a conspiracy was hatched to cause harm and breach of trust.
