Chandigarh: Pardeep Singh (24), an NRI who was stabbed to death after a brawl during the Hola Mohalla festival, was cremated at his native village Gazikot in Gurdaspur.

Pardeep Singh alias Prince had gone to attend Hola Mohalla at Sri Anandpur Sahib. He was dressed as a Nihang Sikh at the time of the incident and he came from Canada recently.

According to the information, Singh asked the youths to not play obscene songs in the car, which led to a clash. Disgruntled youth attacked Pardeep with swords and killed him on the spot.

Leaders of various political and religious organizations attended the funeral of Singh.

Pardeep’s father Subedar Major Gurbaksh Singh lit the pyre. He has demanded strict action against the accused from the police and administration.

Gurbaksh Singh said that his son has sacrificed his life to restore the dignity of ‘Guru-Dham’. Taking pride in the ‘martyrdom’ of his son, he said that the government should take lessons from this incident and assure that goons will not create mayhem at the religious places. He also sought strict action against all the culprits.

Meanwhile, two accused have been arrested including main accused Satbir Singh of Nurpur Bedi so far. The police have yet to arrest remaining accused involved in the case.
