Chandigarh: President Droupadi Murmu arrived at Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport in Amritsar today and paid obeisance at Golden Temple.

After this, she reached Jallianwala Bagh to pay homage to the martyrs. Later, she paid obeisance at the Durgiana Temple and then at Sri Ramtirtha. This is Murmu’s first Punjab visit after assuming the office as the President.

After leaving the Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport, the President’s convoy reached the Golden Temple. She was received by MP Gurjit Aujla. Along with this, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami has submitted a memorandum to her. President Murmu reached Jallianwala Bagh at around 2.50 pm.

The President wrote her message in the visitor’s book of Jallianwala Bagh. “Today, I paid my humble tribute to the freedom fighters on the holy land of Jallianwala Bagh. I salute all the brave fighters of India who lost their lives in the unfortunate massacre of 1919. A grateful nation will always remember those brave martyrs who sacrificed everything on the motherland.”

Meanwhile, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has submitted two memorandums during president Droupadi Murmu’s visit to the Golden Temple. Principal Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami first submitted memorandum regarding the release of the Sikh prisoners and the second memorandum regarding the recognition given to the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.

Meanwhile, keeping in mind the security, Amritsar city has been divided into 5 sectors. During her four-hour visit to Amritsar, the President visited the Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh, Durgiana Temple and Sri RamTirtha. Due to which the traffic of the entire city was going to be affected from 1 to 4 o’clock.
