Chandigarh: To eliminate the narco-gangster-terrorist nexus from jails, the Punjab Police suspended seven jail officials of which five have been arrested including a Superintendent of Central Jail, Goindwal Sahib for dereliction of duty and connivance with gangsters in a video leak case.
The move came after two inmates, identified as Mandeep Singh alias Toofan of Batala and Mohna alias Manmohan Singh of Budhlada, were killed during a clash in jail by fellow inmates. Later, a video from Goindwal Sahib Central Jail got viral on Sunday, in which Sachin Bhiwani and his associates were talking about the incident in which two gangsters were killed in a Gangwar between two groups took place jail premises on February 26, 2023.
The Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stressed that a stern action will be initiated against anyone found to be so involved in any irregularities and also exuded full confidence in functioning of the Punjab Police to annihilate the drugs menace and gangster culture from the state.
Addressing a press conference, IG (Headquarters) Sukhchain Singh Gill said that CM Mann has directed state police conduct a thorough out investigate in every case and tighten the noose of those involved in the irregularities.
An Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson said that it is for the first time that such a stern action has been taken against the police officials by the state government for negligence in the duty, which again clear the intent of the Mann government that it will not tolerate any kind of shadiness. While successive governments have patronised the gangsters and mafia, the AAP government has crackdown on it and state will be soon made free of it soon.
He said that the dream of the Mann government is to be realized by working with upmost honesty and transparency. So, all officers must work with the dogged honesty and sincerity and do the smallest works related to public with speed and leave no works pending.
