Chandigarh: The budget session of the Punjab Assembly began with the Governor’s address on Friday. The Governor listed the achievements of the Punjab government and also gave information about the proposed works of the government.
The Congress, however, created a ruckus when the word ‘my government’ was used during the address by the Governor. Leader of Opposition Pratap Bajwa told the Governor that when the AAP government does not respect him, then he should not address it as ‘my government’.
At the same time, the Governor also started using only the word government instead of my government while reading the address. Later, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann objected to it.
Meanwhile, a ruckus started between the members of the party and the opposition in the House. The Chief Minister urged the Governor to use the word ‘My Government’ citing rules, after which the Governor again started using the word ‘My Government’.
Disgruntled Congress MLAs walked out of the House raising slogans. The governor also mentioned the principal’s visit to Singapore. “Hopefully, the government will answer my questions.”
During the address, the Governor gave advice to the members. He said that Punjab Assembly is ideal. No unparliamentary language should be used during the session. Members may have differences but there may not be contradictions between the Houses. The Governor concluded his address at 11:09 am with the slogan ‘Wahe Guru Ji Da Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh’.
The session is likely to be stormy amid the ongoing tussle between Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Governor Banwarilal Purohit. The opposition has made full preparations to surround the government on the issue of law and order.
Meanwhile, Banwari Lal Purohit in his address praised the Punjab government for adopting zero tolerance policy towards corruption. The Governor said that to eliminate corruption from the state, my government started the Anti Corruption Action Line Number 95012-00200.
The Vigilance Bureau registered 83 trap cases against 06 gazetted officers, 79 non-gazetted officers and 22 private persons during the period from March 16, 2022 to February 28, 2023, who were caught red-handed accepting bribes.
