Chandigarh: Even for days on after Amritpal Singh, the head of the waris Punjab outfit, attacked the Ajnala police station, the police have not taken any action.

All the accused can be clearly seen in the CCTV footage, some of them brandishing swords and guns, broke through barricades and clashed with cops. Despite this, the police have not yet made the identity of any accused public. No FIR has been registered in the matter. Meanwhile, Damdami Taksal has come out in protest against Amritpal.

On Sunday, Amritsar Rural SSP Satinder Singh had said that the police and other agencies were doing their job. None of the accused will be spared.

At the same time, due to lack of action for so many days, questions are being raised on the functioning of the police and the government. On February 23, supporters of ‘Waris Punjab De’ attacked the Ajnala police station, injuring six policemen, including the SP. After this incident, the police released Amritpal’s close aide Lovepreet.

Lovepreet was arrested in connection with the kidnapping and assault of Varinder Singh, a resident of Rupnagar.

The Chief Jathedar of Damdami Taksal Ajnala, Amrik Singh Ajnala, has said that the way Amritpal Singh and his companions used the holy form of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji as a shield to get Lovepreet released is against the dignity. Sikh organisations should raise their voice for this. Jathedar Amrik Singh was addressing the media in Amritsar.

He said he was being falsely accused that the Dera of Damdami Taksal Ajnala instigated Varinder Singh to lodge a complaint against Amritpal with the police. Varinder Singh is neither a student of his mint nor a servant. Even he himself has never met Varinder Singh till date.

“I came to know that Varinder Singh and his two accomplices had gone to attend a religious programme in Ajnala,” he said.

During this time he stayed at the headquarters of Mint. The gates of the mint are open to every Gursikh. Meanwhile, some people took Varinder in the vehicle. They assaulted him at a tubewell several kilometres away. After escaping from their clutches, Varinder lodged a complaint against Amritpal and his accomplice.
