Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday sentenced sacked Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) Balwinder Singh Sekhon and his aide Pardeep Sharma to six months in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 each on them.

The high court had issued arrest orders after sacked DSP Balwinder Singh Sekhon made derogatory remarks against the high court judges in a video posted on social media.

The high court had issued a notice to the sacked DSP after a video went viral on social media. In the video, Sekhon is using the objectionable words against the High Court bench. The high court said it was unfortunate to use such words.

Former DSP, who was embroiled in a phone dispute with ex-Punjab cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, was sacked by the government.

The dismissal has been done after an inquiry into the matter. It is alleged that Sekhon did not follow the limits while on duty and continued to write against the government on social media.

Sekhon was suspended from service for a long time due to these allegations, later was dismissed after a government probe. Following this, he moved to the Punjab and Haryana High Court and challenged the government decision. The petition is still pending.

Meanwhile, Sekhon was dismissed from service on August 31 on his retirement day.
