Ontario: Ontario tabled health-care bill on Tuesday to allow the province to expand private clinics into the public health care system.
Health Minister Sylvia Jones announced last month that the bill was being introduced and since then opposition parties and some healthcare experts have been critical of the role of such for-profit clinics. Meanwhile, Jones made it clear that patients in these clinics, including the new facilities performing hip and knee surgeries, will not have to spend out of their own pockets, but all this expenditure will also be done from public funds.
Jones also said that the province would be able to take the help of specialist organizations to inspect these clinics, but the province has not yet determined what these institutions will be.
The government said that many options are being considered by the province for this, including the existing regulatory colleges.
