Chandigarh: Kulwinderjit Singh Khanpuria of the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) has been convicted by a special national investigation agency (NIA) court in Mohali, Punjab.

The special court has framed charges against Khanpuria under other serious sections, including the section of collecting weapons to wage war against the country. Khanpuria was produced before a Mohali court today through video conferencing.

The NIA had registered a case against Khanpuria in 2019. He was arrested on November 18, 2022 from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. He had returned from Bangkok. During this time, on the basis of intelligence information, Indian agencies arrested him.

Khanpuria has also been charged under sections of the Criminal Conspiracy and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). Khanpuria has been charged under sections 121, 122, 123, 120-B of the IPC, sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act and sections 17, 18, 18-B, 38 and 39 of the UAPA.

The NIA, in its charge sheet filed against Khanpuria, had said that he, along with his accomplices Ravinderpal Singh, Jagdev Singh and Harcharan Singh, had entered into a large-scale criminal conspiracy.

This conspiracy was related to large-scale terrorist attacks in the country and waging war against the country. Its purpose was to revive the Khalistani wave of terrorism in the country and establish a Khalistani country through violent means.
