New Delhi: Income tax teams have raided BBC’s offices in Delhi and Mumbai on Tuesday. The official said that the ‘survey operation’ of the Income Tax Department team is going on.
According to sources, this team reached the Kasturba Gandhi Marg office in Delhi at 11.20 am. The phones and laptops of all the employees have been confiscated.
An official message has been sent by the BBC to its staff. It has been said in this message that the employees who are at home should stay there and should not come to the office. The staff who are present in the office should not worry.
According to sources, the IT department has refused to talk to anyone outside till the survey is over. The IT department sought balance sheet and transaction details of the last several years from the Finance Department of BBC.
The BBC office will remain sealed till the Income Tax Department’s survey is over. According to the sources of the Income Tax Department, this survey is being done regarding international taxation and some financial irregularities.
Officials said that the IT Department has conducted a survey operation in the Delhi and Mumbai offices of BBC on Tuesday as part of the tax evasion probe. He said that the department is examining the business operations of the company and documents related to its Indian unit.
Officials said that there is an office of BBC on the sixth floor of Hindustan Times building in Kasturba Gandhi Marg. The Accounts Department operates from Mumbai Office only. There are 15 officers in the survey of the Income Tax Department in Mumbai. At the same time, a team of 24 IT people is present in the BBC office in Delhi. There are total four teams, in which one team includes 6 IT people.
