Toronto: Former city councillor Joe Cressy has refused to turn to municipal politics after Mayor John Tory abruptly resigned from his post on Friday.

In April last year, Cressy resigned as chair of Toronto’s board of health and as councillor of Spadina Fort York. He then became an executive at George Brown College.

Cressy’s name immediately emerged as a possible replacement for mayor after John Tory announced his resignation from the mayor’s post due to his inappropriate relationship with his former staff member.

Cressy admitted that until a year ago he wanted to seriously run for the mayor’s post, but this time he has no intention of doing so. He made it clear that he wants to give all the time to his young children and family. Toronto residents will get more clarity on Wednesday on when the by-elections for the post will be held and the city council will meet to discuss the proposed budget for 2023.
